On Saturday, March 3, The Perlman Music Program (PMP) held a spectacular concert and dinner at Kristy and Jim Clark’s stunning Palm Beach home. With the vital leadership support of Kristy and Jim Clark, Emilia and Pepe Fanjul, and Vicki and Chris Kellogg, the evening honored Toby and Itzhak Perlman’s dedication to classical music’s bright future. For the eleventh year in a row, philanthropists and music lovers gathered to share their passionate support of the Perlman’s exceptional students and alumni.

This special annual event is made possible through Kristy and Jim Clark’s profound generosity and dedication to The Perlman Music Program. “I was inspired when I first met Toby and Itzhak and learned about PMP,” said Jim Clark. “I went to Shelter Island, heard some of the concerts, and decided to encourage my friends and neighbors in Palm Beach to get involved. An incredible amount of talent has come through their school–it’s turned into a big success.”

After a reception, guests gathered in the elegant living room to hear a joyful Mendelssohn string quartet, Handel/Halvorsen’s virtuosic “Passacaglia” for violin and cello, and a stirring piano quartet by Dvorak. Violinists Jenny Jin, Nathan Meltzer, Clara Neubauer, and James Thompson; violists DJ Cheek and Caeli Smith; cellists Bethany Bobbs, Sterling Elliott, and SuJin Lee; and pianist Kyle Orth brought each masterpiece to life.

After a standing ovation, Toby Perlman moderated a spirited Q&A session. Guests and musicians delved into a discussion of artistry, education, and the next generation of classical music. Maestro Itzhak Perlman contributed his own observations, to the delight of all the guests.

When asked how PMP contributed to her studies, an artist enthusiastically responded, “I joined PMP when I was 15 years old, and have spent more than eleven years in this program. PMP is unlike anything else. The impact is enormous. It’s a year-round investment in us, the students, and creates a family feel that you don’t find anywhere else. It’s a privilege.”

Jim Clark summed up with a spirited challenge to all in attendance to support PMP’s incredible talent. Toby Perlman expressed her heartfelt thanks to all, and in particular Emilia and Pepe Fanjul and Vicki and Chris Kellogg for their vision and leadership, before inviting guests to experience the “PMP magic” firsthand in New York City, Tel Aviv, and Shelter Island. Guests joined the young artists and toasted the phenomenal performances at a festive dinner under the stars.
