2018 Wine Dinner and Charity Auction
Extraordinary wine and music at Le Bernardin Privé
On Thursday, February 1, The Perlman Music Program (PMP) celebrated the artistry of wine and music at the annual Wine Dinner and Charity Auction. The evening brought together nearly 120 supporters in the elegant Le Bernardin Privé for dinner designed by Chef Eric Ripert, music by PMP’s extraordinary young artists, and an exciting live auction directed by Jamie Ritchie, Worldwide Head of Sotheby’s Wine. The event raised an unprecedented $760,000 in support of Toby and Itzhak Perlman’s students, alumni, and faculty.
The evening kicked off with a stylish reception sponsored by Krug Champagne. Guests enjoyed Krug Grand Cuvée poured from magnums while placing their bids on fun silent auction packages. Highlights of the silent auction included: fashion by Karl Lagerfeld Paris and New & Lingwood, club seats for the Mets at CitiField, dinner at Lincoln Ristorante, and vintages of Dalla Valle, Domaine Faiveley, Grace Family Vineyard, Chateau Haut-Brion, Chateau Pontet Canet, and more.
Maestro Itzhak Perlman gave a warm welcome, and encouraged guests to raise their paddles high for PMP! An exquisite five-course dinner was served, designed by Chef Eric Ripert, and including a cheese course personally selected by Michael Affatato of the Village Cheese Shop in Mattituck, NY. Courses were paired with vintages from Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Napa, generously arranged by Kongsgaard Wine, Duclot la Vinicole, Acker Merrall & Condit, and Katherine and Peter Kend.
Jamie Ritchie took the podium and presided over a thrilling and spirited live auction. Highlights included Krug Champagne, Sine Qua Non, Marcassin, an Imperial of 2015 Chateau Margaux, Chateau Petrus, Chateau Latour, dinners at Eleven Madison Park, Le Bernardin, The Modern, and Tribeca Grill, a weeklong getaway in a luxury Paris apartment, and a complete Napa Valley travel experience with visits to Meadowood, the Napa Valley Reserve, Bryant Family Vineyard, Cardinale, and Quintessa.
Toby Perlman introduced three musical interludes performed throughout the evening by PMP’s captivating young artists: excerpts from Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in F Minor, the Handel / Halvorsen “Passacaglia” for Violin and Cello, and – to top off the evening – the incredible Mendelssohn Octet for Strings. At the close of the auction, Toby moderated an impromptu Q&A between PMP alumni and the delighted guests.
The PMP Charity Auction would not be possible without the inspiring leadership of the dedicated Co-Chairs: Stephanie and Gavin Albert, Leslie and James Attwood, Bettina S. and Donald L.
