SUMMER MUSIC SCHOOL
JUNE 27 - AUGUST 17, 2026 | SHELTER ISLAND, NY

A seven-week immersive summer camp for gifted string players, under the guidance of world-class artist-faculty in an idyllic setting. Violinists, violists and cellists ages 12-18 are welcome to apply. Learn more about the Summer Music School

Applications for 2026 will open in October.

    • Open to young students of the violin, viola, and cello ages 12-18 as of the first day of camp

    • Applications for 2026 will open in October

    • Submit up to four (4) video samples in your application
      *The admissions office suggests several samples that demonstrate a variety of styles and skills, decided in consultation with the applicant’s teacher. The repertoire is open-ended for violists and cellists. Violinists are asked not to submit performances of Bach E Major Partita and Shostakovich Concerto. Piano or orchestral accompaniment is required for all concerto submissions. Audio-only recordings are not acceptable.*

    • Applicants are required to introduce themselves and the piece they are about to play in each application video, or may submit a Personal Announcement video introducing all your submissions

    • Submit non-refundable application fee of $95 ($75 if submitted one month prior to the application deadline)

    • Tuition for the 2026 program is $8,200. Students who wish to apply for financial aid are required to submit the Online Application for Financial Aid

 

CHAMBER MUSIC WORKSHOP
May 29 - June 21, 2026 | SHELTER ISLAND, NY

An immersive chamber music experience under the guidance of world-class artist-faculty in an idyllic setting. Violinists, violists, cellists, pianists, and ensembles over the age of 18 are welcome to apply for Summer of 2026. Learn more about the Chamber Music Workshop

    • Open to young artists of the violin, viola, cello, piano, and ensembles

    • Applications for 2026 will open in October

    • Submit up to three (3) video samples in your application, plus your chamber excerpt (or two full works for ensembles) and personal announcement video (one for each member if applying as an ensemble)

      Requirements for Individuals:

      All individual applicants must include the following video recordings (audio-only is not accepted):

    • Chamber excerpt (specified below)

    • One movement of a solo piece, preferably the first movement of a concerto

    • At least one movement of a chamber work

    • A personal announcement video

      Personal Announcement Videos:
      In your personal announcement video, please introduce yourself and answer the following question: "When deep into the rehearsal process preparing for a chamber music performance, what do you feel is personally most important to you as an artist and as a person?"

      Excerpt Videos:
      Individual applicants are required to submit an excerpt video recording (of your part alone, not with a group) as follows:

      VIOLIN: Brahms C Minor Piano Quartet, Op. 60, mvt. IV, measures 1 - 28 (include pickup to m. 1).
      (Excerpt refers to the first violin part)
      VIOLA: Brahms B-flat Sextet, Op. 18, mvt. II, measures 1 - 8 & 17 - 24
      (include pickups to m. 1 & m. 8).
      CELLO: Brahms Sextet in G Major, Op. 36, mvt. I measures 135 - 168 (include pickup to m. 135).
      PIANO: Mozart G Minor Piano Quartet K. 478, mvt. II, measures 1 - 19

      Please note these requirements may vary year to year, and cannot be guaranteed for subsequent admissions cycles. 

      IF you have applied to the CMW before, please do not submit videos from previous auditions/applications.

      Requirements for Ensembles:

      Ensemble applicants (groups of three or more players, with emphasis on piano trios and string quartets) should designate one member of the group to act as primary contact, and complete the questionnaire using their personal information. Upon acceptance to the program, the remaining members will submit their information.

      Pre-formed ensembles are asked to submit:

    • Two complete works of contrasting styles

    • A personal announcement video for each member of the group

      In your personal announcement video, please introduce yourself and answer the following question: "When deep into the rehearsal process preparing for a chamber music performance, what do you feel is personally most important to you as an artist and as a person?"
