PMP’s mission to educate and connect brings students far beyond the Shelter Island campus. Travel Residencies take the PMP curriculum on the road, energizing local audiences while providing a welcome opportunity for alumni and students to reunite.
ISRAEL RESIDENCY
In 2014, we established a partnership with the Lin and Ted Arison Israel Conservatory of Music in Tel Aviv, and our Israel Residency took on a biennial pattern. Toby and Itzhak Perlman and world-class PMP faculty travel to the Conservatory every year to mentor promising young Israeli musicians. In alternating years, international PMP students are invited to join them, in what we call a “full” residency.
Tel Aviv is a modern metropolis and cultural mecca. Home to beautiful beaches, renowned architecture, and a vibrant arts scene, it is the perfect destination for young musicians to continue their education as citizens of the world.
During the full residency, students from PMP and across Israel come together to explore their common musical language under the guidance of Toby and Itzhak Perlman, Merry Peckham, Patrick Romano, and more of PMP’s stellar faculty. Outside the performance hall and classrooms, students travel the country and immerse themselves in a vibrant and diverse culture. They perform with local communities, learn about ancient traditions, explore bustling cities, and share a Passover Seder with Israeli students.
While tragic events prevented us from going back to Israel in the Spring of 2024, this year more than ever, we are focused on fulfilling our commitment to nurturing young Israeli string players. The 2024 Israel Residency took place on Shelter Island for the very first time.
SARASOTA WINTER RESIDENCY
Hosted by the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee with leadership support from The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast, the Sarasota Winter Residency has been our perfect home away from home since 2003. Students of the Summer Music School, Chamber Music Workshop, and the Israel Residency reunite for rehearsals, Works in Progress concerts, and orchestral and choral performances in a warm and friendly atmosphere guided by Toby and Itzhak Perlman.
Visit The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast website for schedules and more information.
